William Welker Rouse

William Welker “Twig” Rouse, 72, of Lucama was called to his heavenly home September 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 1, 1953 to Allen Welker and Faustina Rouse in Wilson, North Carolina. William attended Lucama High School and graduated in 1971. He then attended East Carolina University where he met his beautiful wife, Charlotte. He graduated in 1977 with a Masters degree in Technology and technical education. He taught at Appomattox High School in Appomattox, Virginia from 1977-1979 and then at Halifax Community College in Weldon, NC from 1979 to 1985. He enjoyed teaching and making an impact on his students' lives. After his teaching career, he moved back to his hometown of Lucama to manage rental property up until his recent sickness.

He loved life and he loved people- his family most of all. He had a kind heart that was filled with compassion towards others and he dedicated his life to serving his community well. He went about his work with every ounce he had to give and taught his family to work hard, stay humble, and to treat others as they would want to be treated. He was a master at fixing things- if there was a way to fix something he would most likely have it fixed.

William was blessed with 49 years of marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Charlotte. Over the years together, they raised three children and built a life they loved. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren. Some of his most fond memories were of time spent at family gatherings for birthdays and holidays. He also enjoyed hunting, and fishing throughout his life.

William is survived by his wife Charlotte, son Allen (Katie) Rouse, daughter Karen (David) Mills both of Lucama. His siblings include sisters Susan (Garry) Wright, Jackie (Erick) Thorpe both of Lucama, and Mary (David) Hurt of Cummings, GA. He had seven grandchildren which he loved dearly Ella, Alex, Benjamin, Paisley, Amelia, Eleanor and Welker. As well as many nieces and nephews that he loved and cared about.

William is preceded in death by his parents, Allen Welker And Faustina B Rouse, his sisters Nancy Rouse, Ruth Rouse and oldest daughter Jennifer Monique Rouse.

The family will receive friends and loved ones Thursday October 1st from 6:00-8:00 PM at Joyner’s Funeral Home in Wilson. A service celebrating Twigs life and memories will be held on Friday October 2, at 3:00 PM at Little Rock Original Freewill Baptist in Lucama. Pastor Kelly Smart and Pastor Dee Eakes will be officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service in the Silas Lucas Jr. Family Cemetery. A private Internment will follow at the Silas Lucas Family Cemetery in Lucama.
