Winnie Belle Petway, 97, of Marion, North Carolina, formerly of Wilson, North Carolina went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Winnie was the second born of ten siblings on January 5, 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence E. (1987) and Mattie Pridgen Hoggard (1972); husband, Robert (Bob) Petway (2014); her son, Barney Greene (2024); her great - great granddaughter, Isabella Carter; brothers, Lt. Col Harvey (Klu) Hoggard (2012), Steve Hoggard (2015), Jake Hoggard (2019); sisters, Peggy Patterson (2019) and Pansy Bedgood (2020); and three infant brothers.
Winnie worked for twenty-eight years at the Rocky Mount Cord Mill. She loved working in her garden and her flowers. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and doing her daily devotions using a magnifying glass in her older years. Winnie loved camping at Kerr Lake with family, and in her retirement, she often drove the hundred miles to meet her oldest brother Harvey, at "the camp" on Yeopim Creek, Hertford and fish together.
In her younger years, there were always treats, cakes, and candy at Winnie's house; most homemade.
It was always interesting to hear her tell the family history of childhood in the 1930's and 40's of her brothers and sisters; tales of World War II and grandparents.
Winnie is survived by the last sibling, her brother, Rudy G. Hoggard (Molly) of Marion; daughter-in-law, Donna Greene; grandchildren, Chris Greene (Charlene) and Jennifer Miller (Bruce); five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and step-son, Larry Petway (Connie) of Wilmington. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Mick Patterson, and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hoggard and Mary Puddin Hoggard.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, January 16, 2026, from 1 – 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. A graveside service will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
