Dorothy Boyette Joyner May 18, 1928 – October 8, 2020 Dorothy Boyette Joyner, 92, of Wilson, North Carolina passed away on October 8, 2020 in her hometown. She was born on May 18, 1928 to Bessie Farmer and John Thomas Boyette. She attended local Rockridge High School and graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1948. Dorothy married Jesse Clinton Joyner on June 26, 1950 at First Baptist Church. After a career in elementary education, she was a devoted wife and mother during her children’s formidable years. As an empty nester, Mrs. Joyner returned to the workforce where she proudly – and stubbornly – worked until the age of 87. She was an active member of the Thomas Hadley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and dedicated parishioner of her First Baptist Church where she celebrated all life’s milestones. She is preceded in death by; her parents; her sister, Virginia Boyette Lee, and her beloved husband of 50 years, Jesse Clinton Joyner. She is survived by her son, Jesse Clinton Joyner Jr. and his wife, Donna of Charlottesville, Virginia; daughters, Virginia Joyner Kennedy and her husband, Jim of McLean, Virginia and Catherine Irene Joyner Lughes and her husband, Jody of Raleigh. She took great pride in her six grandchildren and was blessed with five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John William Boyette, Sr. The Joyner family is forever grateful for the acts of love shown by extended family and friends. Special and sincere thanks to all her caregivers, especially Caroline Dorsey, Faye and Dale Winstead, and Sandra Boykin. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 311 W Nash Street, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
